Frisbee

Yesterday was our church's annual picnic. I'm not sure exactly why, but it's not usually something I look forward to with great enthusiasm. Maybe it's the "sitting awkwardly among a couple hundred people while they stuff their face with picnic food" part I don't like. Or having forced conversations with people. I dislike forced conversations. Maybe it's because sometimes, when I try to talk to people, they just look uncomfortably at their friends... But this is something I have tried to get over. I don't do well in very large groups. In semi-large groups I am okay. In small groups, I feel great. Add to the fact that I don't do well with very large groups, my parents have recently switched churches and they were my "go-to people". You could always count on them to sit near you or talk to you. *not forced talking* And now they are not there anymore. I have to strike out on my own now. So yesterday I was awkwardly standing near the pavilion waiting for something to happen, watching Josh play in the spigot water, and wondering what to do with myself, when I was invited to play Ultimate Frisbee. The teens and young adults at our church have been frisbee fanatics all summer, though I personally had not yet played with the group. Hmmm, this spiked my interest. I played soccer regularly when I was younger and have always been rather competitive, though quite out of shape now at the ripe old age of 24. Honestly, I hadn't played a vigorous group game of anything since I played soccer with a bunch of Salvadorians last July. But, since Adam was more than willing to watch Josh so I could play, I took them up on their invitation. I don't think I had had that much fun in ages. I am horrible at frisbee... Well, not horrible. Just not that good... But the good, fun, competition was good for my bones. The hot sun, the sweat, running back and forth, the good plays every once in a great while... This church picnic turned out to be the best since I had started going to them. Now I'm getting anxious for the next big frisbee game.

Yeah, I'm just that weird.

Fun in a Box

Josh and I have been having fun with boxes lately. I am honestly not sure who is having more fun, me or him. I had a Tupperware party recently and when the order came, they arrived in four very fine boxes. Two of the boxes were plenty big for both Josh and I to sit in, with enough room left over for "Mahy-net" (aka blanket). The boxes have since turned into houses, boats and a place to hide when Daddy comes home from work. Although by the time Daddy actually got in the door, I was the only one still hiding... Thankfully Daddy is pretty good at playing along. Ah... Fun in a box.

I didn't realize my photos from the weekend were so piteously boring. But I said I'd upload pictures, so here are my boring Sabres game photos. Not that you'll find them especially fascinating.

The opposing Toronto Maple Leafs. It was actually more exciting to be playing against a team that was from so near. Made the fans more varied and interesting.

This is the part of the game where everyong gets nervous because the Sabres are down by one. But no need to fear. They tied the game with five seconds to spare and ended up winning in overtime. That was pretty exciting. And loud.

Five Busters of the Budget Game

I was tagged by my blog friend Jessica to do the 5 Budget Buster Meme. The rules are simple:

"The rules of the challenge are that you have to tag 3 people to carry it on and link back to the person who tagged you. Please also use the graphic at the top of this post. You can link to it or copy and paste it."

You are supposed to list five different things that challenge or bust your budget. We don't really have a set budget (shame, shame), but there are a few things that I know I spend too much on! My Five Budget Busters are:

1. Internet/Cable TV. I know, cable is really Adam's budget buster, but I really love having the Internet! Not only does it cost SOO much, but it also eats up so much of my valuable time.

2. Kohl's. I love Kohl's and every time I go there, I seem to spend too much money. And they always have sales, which inspire even more spontaneous spending.

3. CVS. I was recently encouraged (ahem) to get a CVS card and start saving! Well, I can't seem to get the good deals quite right and I think I've actually spent more money than I have saved. So this budget buster is working the opposite of that which it is supposed to.

4. Clearance racks. Keep me away from those! One good way to spend money that I shouldn't be spending is to find a really good deal on something that I really don't need!

5. Baby food. Okay, I was having a hard time thinking of five and my Mom suggested this one. After all, if one has a baby food mill and tasty things to eat, why should she need to buy jarred baby food and special baby juice and snacks? Shouldn't I be saving many $$$ by making my own baby food? Josh would be just as pleased with eating home-made food as he is the jarred stuff. So therefore baby food is a budget buster.

There must be other things that should be on this list. After all, we had a special guest at our church on Sunday from Gospel for Asia (GFA) who said that $1 could pay to have 200 tracts printed. The average tract in India is read ten times, meaning that $1's worth of tracts could reach 2,000 people with the gospel. Got me thinking about the worthless things that I have spent $1 on. I wonder how many people could've heard about the love of Christ with the money I have needlessly spent this past week?
