Did You Get My Snow?
So the snowstorm missed us. We got maybe three inches. It was heavy, icy snow. But certainly no where near the 7-10 inches that were predicted. I'm trying to decide if I was disappointed or relieved to find there wasn't a foot of new snow outside this morning. I'm sure all the local school aged kids were happy none-the-less, as all the schools had canceled classes for today in advance. I guess there was no real reason to fuss, unless the storm is just holding out and wants to hit us tonight instead... At least if it comes tonight, we'll have dog food. :)

Just a Bit of Snow
| Tonight Heavy Snow Lo 18 °F | Wednesday Wintry Mix Hi 28 °F | Wednesday Night Snow Lo 14 °F | Thursday Chance Snow Hi 21 °F |
They tell us that we are to expect some snow tonight. They have been telling the whole country to expect some snow. Up to ten inches tonight and up to seven more tomorrow... Nothing like a little bit of snow. I guess we should've remembered to buy dog food. But we are New Yorkers and we can brave the snow if it means the dog won't be starving.

Bigger and Bigger
"Mom, do you wanna do puzzles?" "Wanna read a book?" "Mommy, sing Jesus Loves Me." "I peed." "Can I wash dishes?" "Cat! Be good!" "Thank you Mommy, for fixing it."His little voice sometimes just gets to me. I want to keep it in a box, so I play it later when his little voice has long since said it's last good-bye. I love it when he sings to me or with me. I almost want him to stay two forever, but I know each new faze is exciting in it's own way. This morning we played a rousing game of hide-and-seek together. I ran from one end of the house to the other, crouching and ducking here and there, all the while being chased by a small giggling boy. This afternoon I plan to take him outside to play in the snow. That is, if he ever goes to sleep and gets his nap over with. We received well over a foot of heavy, wet snow last night, perfect for making snowmen or sledding down the snow banks. Josh has only been sledding once and we've never made a snowman together. (Last year's doesn't really count, as he didn't help me one bit.) I know it'll be a chore to get on all of our snow clothes and tromp through the three foot drifts, but it's be worth it once we reach the open yard. We could build the biggest snow man together. I'm getting chills just thinking about it. (Hurry Josh! Fall asleep, so you can be done with your nap. Then we can go play outside together!!) I want to enjoy each moment I can with this little guy.

Snow, snow, snow, Snow!
It snowed all day. It snowed all night. The snow came up to our windows and covered the cars. It was a snowy wonderland. We wondered at that snow. We wondered how long it would take to shovel. We wondered when it would stop. That snow was just wonderful.

Dreaming...
I am finishing off last nights' left over cheesecake. I'm pretty sure I have eaten enough desserts in the past two weeks to last all year. And now I feel pretty gross. Actually, I feel disgusting. I eat more sugar than anything else this time of year. What I really need to do is bust into the spinach greens I bought today at Wegmans, sprinkle grape tomatoes over them, along with red onion and feta cheese and drizzle the whole thing with balsamic vinaigrette. Except I left my vinaigrette at Mom and Dad's house on Christmas...
Can I have that back please? Ah... Healthy food. It is so much easier to eat healthy in the summer, when the garden is bursting with cucumbers, snow peas, beans and tomatoes. Josh and I would regularly wander out into the garden this summer, pick a ripe cucumber and eat it together, sitting on our back steps, the sun warming our arms and legs. At this moment, the picture painted in my mind is a far distant memory. On the other side of my bedroom window, the wind is whipping snow wildly about, gathering it into drifts and filling every nook and cranny. The garden is a forgotten dream, lying buried in the snow. I trekked though the drifts this evening to find our compost pile. The snow must be at least two feet in spots. The forecast only calls for more snow. I find the whole prospect of more snow to be rather exciting... Maybe because I don't have to shovel it or maybe because I have a nice warm house. You can guarantee that I won't be leaving the house wearing my flats tomorrow. I will have my furry boots pulled up to my knees and a hat over my ears. The drive to church will be a slow one. But, what else can we expect on a January day in New York?

It Looks Like Christmas
I think it is January. We have skipped right over Thanksgiving and the entire month of December. Two weeks ago we were enjoying 70 degree weather and now we bundle up before going out. We don our boots, hats and mittens. We mustn't forget our sweaters or our thickest coat. We would regret it if we were caught without our snow brush and hopefully it is still in the trunk of our car waiting for us from last winter. We trek through the snow here and there. We dig through the garden shed looking for the snow shovel. Oh, where did we put the leftover ice melt? Snow, ice and winter cold, you have jumped on us like an unexpecting mouse. Caught us unaware. The garden hose is still coiled in the garden. The leaves have not been raked out of the front lawn. I was about to cover my vegetable garden with black plastic. Now the remnants of fall have been covered by winters' first icy blast. Shall we see the grass again? Maybe. Maybe not... At least in looks like Christmas.

Hey Mom, What's That??
Today was this winter season's first day of accumulation. The snow was 2-3 inches deep by noon. When Josh and I left this morning there was no snow, so upon our return home, it was quite the treat for the little guy. After all, he doesn't remember last winters' snow. He was mystified by the white ground... He stepped (or rather stomped) into the snow, bent down
cautiously and raked his fingers across the cold snow. Interesting. Good thing his mittens were handy, because then he could hold the snow and see how it tasted. I'm pretty sure he liked it. Time to break out the snow suit!! (If you are wondering what happened to his lip, he did that at Grandma's. ;)
