Going Out on a Snowy Evening

Tonight is a snowy evening. I drove out to visit a friend of mine who goes to college in Geneseo and when I came home it had snowed at least another six inches. That makes for a lot of snow since Tuesday afternoon. The snow is very pretty and I don't see any reason to complain about it. After all, it is about time we have a decent snow fall around here. Maybe the family will want to go sledding tomorrow. Wouldn't that be fun? This is perfect snow for playing in. Maybe not for building snowmen or snow forts, but good for making trails and just general goodness. I bet these snowy pictures make you southerners jealous of all our snowy goodness. And yes, there is a driveway somewhere beneath the tires of my car. Good thing that I knew the general area of the driveway or it might've been hard to find. Oh, but what fun and beauty the snow is. I am enjoying the looks of it all.

Dude Glasses
Baby, It's Cold Outside
Today the snow just keeps coming. It came all day yesterday too, so now we have a lot of it. On a typical Tuesday and Thursday I drive out to my parents house and have supper with them. But after meeting my Mom at the library this morning, I think today is a good day to stay at home, snug and warm under a blanket or baking cookies in the kitchen. There is too much snow outside to feel to comfortable driving around, especially after it gets dark tonight. I thought that this sea gull needed a warmer place to sit than the library parking lot. Seems he should've been tucked away under a blanket somewhere too. Or at least he should've worn his scarf when he went out on such a snowy day :) If only Josh was a little older, we could spend the afternoon building snowmen and having a snowball fight. Don't worry, I'm not really rushing him to get big. I'm content to watch him sleep away the afternoon right now. But soon enough, he'll be out there in the snow like I was when I was a kid. My brothers and I would spend all afternoon making snow trails and digging tunnels into the snow banks. We might drag our plastic sleds up to the big hill in town and go sledding with our friends and neighbors. When we came home, a hot cup of chocolate finished off our adventure and warmed our cold bodies. That's when the snow was the best to enjoy. We didn't have to plow it or drive in it. All we had to do was enjoy it. Except for those times when we had to shovel the driveway. Somehow it wasn't as much fun when we were put to work out in the cold. But that's what kids are for, right?

Boring Hair Cut
I got my hair cut today and I'm not really a big fan of it. I wanted something different, shorter and fun. But it's pretty much the same as before, just shorter. And kinda boring. Should I call the hair stylist up and tell her that I'm not really loving the "do" and see if it can be modified? Or should I wait it out and see if I grow to love it?
The Best Dog Toy in the World!
I have a great dog, but even great dogs can be naughty. I don't know how much money (and I don't want to know) she has wasted by chewing shoes, books, papers, tools, potatoes and any other thing that was left out in her reach while we were not home. Some things, like my leather bound Bible, were not left in her reach, and I'm not quite sure how she got a hold of it. But after much deliberation, I decided that I should try out an "acclaimed" doggy toy. I have a couple friends whose dog has a rubber Kong toy, but when I saw how expensive they were ($10.00), I put off getting one for Molly. But after seeing too many things thrown in the garbage, I forked out the money. I am here to tell you that the Kong is the best dog toy that I have ever seen. Molly carries it around with her wherever she goes and after a week and a half's worth of almost constant chewing, it seems to be almost indestructible. It's also very good for bouncing, if you don't mind playing catch with your dog for endless hours. And to top it off, you can put doggy treats or peanut butter inside of it, so your dog can spend even more time preoccupied. We should've invested the ten dollars in it last summer.

Moving Around
This morning Josh looked as if he'd been in a war. He had a little scratch on his forehead, one on his eyelid, on his lip, and on his neck. They were just little scratches, but I figured it was time to trim his nails again. I had just trimmed them a few days earlier, so he should've been safe! But there were little corner pieces that I had missed and those can be dangerous when a little boy is learning how fun it can be to flail his hands and arms in the night. (This picture isn't from this morning, so no scratches there! But isn't he a cutie?) He is getting so big and strong now. He loves to "stand up" and he kicks his feet quite often. I'm sure it won't be long now before he can roll over. That sounds like a dog trick. :) He loves to talk to me and I can tell that he now has a preference to be with me over someone else. He is a silly boy sometimes! And how we love having him around. Being a mom is getting better all the time!
