A Proactive Approach

I feel like a big zit. Well, at least lots of little zits. About a month ago, Adam started threatening to buy me Proactive. I resisted his remarks. Then he actually ordered it. I wasn't sure whether to be appreciative or offended. I opted to be appreciative, especially since it looked as if my face had exploded. Really. It was just that bad. People have commented that I looked 16 before and now I definitely had gone back a few years. It was horrible. I went whole week without cookies and allowed myself only minimal amounts of sugar. I stopped using my moisturizer. I started using the Proactive. My face started to get better. I thought it was working. But now it has been at least 10 days with a new zit each day. I am ready to give up and throw in the towel. I ate two cookies today. I expect five new zits tomorrow. (Sugar sets me off.) I am tired of being a zit. One big fat zit.

I feel your pain. I have similar problems, although mine didn't start until I was in my mid 30's. I have a prescription cream from the dermatologist, but still get some acne. It is better though. Do you drink enough? I know I don't, and I think that helps. I think you're still beautiful. :)

I meant I think it helps to drink a lot of water.

I would not blame sugar. I always get a zit or two from greasy foods - research it -- what's the homeopathic approach/solution?

I wish I knew how to help you. Blemishes seem to run in the family. Maybe it's hormonal?

PS. You were absolutely beautiful the other night! I didn't notice any zits.

I am with you. I said I would turn 30 with cartwheels if I knew I wouldn't break out anymore. I found the Mary Kay miracle set really helps. I used Proactive and it made it worse, but it probably depends on your skin. You can get Mary Kay for 1/2 the price on ebay - don't tell Angela I told you!

BTW - I have never noticed your acne.

PS - I had this zit before we went to Ethiopia, I prayed it would go away. It was a little better but still hanging on... then it got huge again. What is up?!

Beth, make an appointment with a dermatologist. I think most insurances cover it if you get a referral from your doctor. We did that for Audra and it helped a lot.

By the way, I've always thought you are beautiful too!

I just found this post. I have a wonderful problem dealing with acne as well and have tried about everything. Proactive worked for a small time and then came back something fierce. I think the brand Acnefree from target works better than proactive. Same thing, but much cheaper. I have tried organic and chemical. What I'm using right now with pretty good results is the Murad acne collection. They do sell it at Ulta. It is a bit pricey. But they have a month supply for like $30 bucks that you can try to see if it works for you, without spending a ton. You do need to do it twice a day to consistently be mostly acne free. And I think your zits are hormonal. Mine definitely pop out way more around my period.
